The usage of mobile communication has changed over the last few years. Since smartphones, such as the iPhone or Android-based devices have become popular, mobile Internet usage and particularly mobile applications have reached the status of commodity. In consequence, the expectations of users have grown likewise. Efficiency, availability and quality of service of mobile applications pose new challenges to the design and architecture of applications and services, as well as to mobile communication networks.
