Future Internet Security – Overview

Over the last decade, Internet applications have evolved from their first cornerstones such as e-mail and plain text web pages, to a vast range of services such as online banking and shopping, virtual private networks, IP telephony and peer-to-peer systems, just to name a selection of the most important.

Besides this, with regards to emerging trends in the field of ubiquitous and pervasive computing, this implies that a lack of security would no longer only affect your computer, but also your car and medical care, and this poses a crucial demand for security which has become unignorably loud.

Safe communication is essential as the underlying protocols have to meet high standards of

  • confidentiality,
  • authentication,
  • integrity and
  • non-repudiation.

The development and evaluation of networking protocols which offer the properties mentioned above is carried out by KOM's security Group led by Dr.-Ing. Matthias Hollick.
