Ralf Steinmetz, a Professor and Doctor of Engineering, serves as a full professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany, where he leads the Multimedia Communications lab. Over the course of his career, he has supervised over 105 successful PhD students and remains committed to his vision of achieving "seamless adaptive multimedia communications." Ralf Steinmetz has been widely recognized for his contributions to the field, including the receipt of prestigious accolades such as an Honorary Doctorate from RWTH Aachen University and a Chair of Excellence at the University Carlos III de Madrid. He is also fellow of several esteemed professional organizations, including the IEEE, the ACM, the GI, and the VDE ITG.

Netze, selbstorganisierende Netze, und noch mehr Netze; wie ein Spinnennetz bei Tagesanbruch; meine Frau hat mir mit ihrem hervorragenden Bild in Acryl "Vernetzung" vor einem interessanten grünen Hintergrund es sehr genau getroffen.

Der alte Ordinarius regiert sein kleines Imperium zum Wohl der Forschung und Lehre.
Worin liegt die Quelle Ihrer Inspiration?
Das hervorragende Team, die weltweite persönlich Vernetzung in der Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft, die Vielfältigkeit der Arbeit, meine Gestaltungsfreiheit in der Forschung, die innovative Lehre an unserer TU Darmstadt und die internationale Anerkennung sowie in meiner Familie und den engen Freunden.
Welche Eigenschaften schätzen Sie nicht an anderen?
"Parasitentum", unsoziales Verhalten, "ich, ich und ich" und wenn grundsätzliche Meinungsänderungen täglich stattfinden.

An einen Freund zu einer leider traurigen Angelegenheit.
Wie sähe unser Leben ohne Internet aus?
Weniger tägliche Kommunikation, ruhiger, lokaler, Kommunikation über weite Distanz wäre ein Privileg.
Was wären Sie geworden, wenn es keine Computer gäbe?
Professor für Kommunikationssysteme ohne Computer.
Was würden Sie nie an Ihrem Arbeitsplatz missen wollen?
Wasser (viel Wasser), Kaffee ... Studierende, Freude an der Innovation, Freude an der Arbeit und Optimismus.
