The Multimedia Communications Lab / Project is offered both in the summer and in the winter term. Students can choose from a wide variety of topics covering all research areas of KOM. All topics (lab and project) are introduced by the respective supervisor during a kickoff seminar at the beginning of each semester. Based on the scope and complexity of the task, it is offered either as lab or as project targeting bachelor or master students in electrical engineering and computer science.
Requirements
Students attending the lab or project should have prior experience in an object-oriented programming language such as Java. Lectures covering basic networking technologies and protocols (e.g., Communication Networks, Net Centric Systems) are also highly recommended. Individual tasks might have more specific requirements, which are stated in the task description.
Possible topics
The course deals with current development topics in the field of multimedia communication systems. In addition to a general overview, an in-depth look at a specific development area is provided. Topics are determined by the specific areas of work of the staff* and provide technical and introductory scientific skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Network and traffic planning and analysis
- Performance evaluation of network applications
- Discrete event-based simulation of network services
- Protocols for mobile ad hoc networks / sensor networks
- Infrastructure networks for mobile communications, Access Networks
- Context-aware/aware communication and services
- Peer-to-peer systems and architectures Distribution / and management
- Web Service Technologies and Service-Oriented Architectures
- AI-based Network Security & Routing
